With experience in direct service, program design, and marketing, Hannah has learned the value of thoughtful communications and human-centered design.

HC Communications & Design LLC

2023 – Current

I established my own consultancy to broaden my skillset and embrace new partnerships. We work to support visionary leaders with effective communications tools to push diverse audiences to think differently and take action.

I've welcomed clients and pro bono projects in brand development and strategy, meeting design and facilitation, project management, event planning, key message development, document design, and interiors.

Michigan Community Resources

2017 – Current

Between 9 and 5, I serve as marketing director for a long-serving nonprofit organization based in Detroit. MCR serves nonprofits and grassroots organizations with organizational development coaching and consulting, tailored cohort experiences, and pro bono legal guidance. In 2021, MCR established a focus on “systems transformation,” reflecting our lived experience around the need for more equitable access to resources for nonprofits in Southeast Michigan and beyond. We’ve developed groundbreaking new initiatives to advocate for doing things differently in the nonprofit sector and across our economy.

During my time at MCR, I’m most proud of the launch of our new Dovetail brand and initiative (www.dovetaildetroit.org), the program design and outreach around our forthcoming Rest and Liberation Initiative (a sabbatical program for Black and Brown nonprofit leaders not served by traditional executive sabbatical programs), and our ongoing, trailblazing sector leadership on systems transformation.

University of Detroit Mercy, Master of Community Development

2017 – 2019

In 2019, I completed my Master of Community Development degree through the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture and Community Development. My degree culminated in a capstone project on the Nardin Park neighborhood, a westside Detroit community slated for development through the city’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund. The project studied the responses of residents and other stakeholders leading revitalization to the neighborhood’s inclusion in the SNF and the city’s infusion of resources.

2014 – Current

Outside of work, I am a proud Detroit resident and advocate. I volunteer with rescue dogs. I enjoy walking outside at the Dequindre Cut and car camping at Michigan’s beautiful state parks. I love finding new and fun ways to be creative. My partner and I are renovating a historic home that we plan to move into in 2024. The renovation has reignited my love for thrifting, thoughtful rehab and reuse, and creating fun and unique spaces within a variety of constraints.

I’m looking to grow my network in Detroit and beyond. If you’re passionate about building bridges and leveraging thoughtful words and good design to make change, let’s do this.
